Portugal Becomes First European Team in 2025 World Club Challenge History

For the first time ever, Associação Surf Costa De Caparica will represent Portugal at the prestigious World Club Challenge on the Gold Coast in January 2025. This groundbreaking moment for European surfing sees the club’s finest paddling out at the iconic Snapper Rocks, ready to compete in the newly revamped team-only format.

Leading the charge for Associação Surf Costa De Caparica are two of Portugal’s top surfers, Guilherme Ribeiro and Martim Paulino, both making their mark on the global surf scene with strong performances on the international circuit. They’ll be joined by Tiago Guerra, known for his powerful style, and Mafalda Lopes, one of Portugal’s standout female surfers, ensuring the club brings serious talent to the Gold Coast.

The team will be led by President Miguel Gomes and Coach Tiago Matos, who are set to guide their surfers as they face off against the world’s best boardriders clubs in a high-stakes competition. The 2025 World Club Challenge will feature 48 clubs from across the globe battling it out in a team-only format, a significant change from previous years. Clubs will compete in heats at Snapper Rocks, with the top two teams advancing.

Even if a club loses a heat, they’ll have a second chance in the newly formed ‘Froggies section,’ which allows teams to fight their way back into the contest and earn a spot in the Grand Final. It’s a surf showdown like never before, with $60,000 in prize money on the line!
