The 2025 World Club Challenge countdown is officially on following today’s event launch at the Rainbow Bay Surf Club.
Evolution has been key to the events continued growth and success and once again, January’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet, bringing together Boardriders clubs from around the globe for three days of club-on-club competition at the famed Snapper Rocks surf break.
This year, the event co-founded by Theodore Vairaktaris & Wayne Bartholomew, will highlight the importance of community and collaboration.
“The World Club Challenge isn’t just a surfing competition; it’s a celebration of the global surf community. This event connects us all, from local boardriders to international legends, united by our shared love of the waves.”
Australia’s best Boardriders Clubs will be joined by teams from the United States, Portugal, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Hawaii, providing the Gold Coast with a truly global teams surfing contest. No less than 4 former world Champions have registered to compete on the Gold Coast from the 17th to the 19th of January including home grown hero Joel Parkinson, Australian legend Layne Beachley and Americans CJ Hobgood and Kelly Slater.
A groundbreaking lifeline system will provide every club with a second chance, meaning that elimination won’t come with a one-off heat loss.
The challenge not only celebrates surf culture but also brings significant benefits to the Gold Coast, fostering tourism and local engagement while showcasing the region on the world stage.
The 5th Instalment of the World Club Challenge see’s Snapper Rocks desperate to secure the World Club Challenge crown. To do it they will need to hold their nerve against Australia’s best while fending off the star studded international field.
